The Romanian Carpathians

The Carpathian Mountains are a vast mountain range in Central and Eastern Europe. The Carpathian Arc prolongs the Alps in the northwest and continues over the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, the Ukraine, Romania and Serbia. The High Tatras form the highest part of the Carpathian Mountains with the highest peak Gerlachovský štít, 2 655 metres above sea level. The Carpathian Mountains are mostly lower, woody mountains with a few alpine areas.
