Begijnhof, a magical place in the centre of Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a lively city where you can see many interesting places. For example, for the landsmen it is Amsterdam port or replica boat Amsterdam moored near the  Nemo. Amsterdam museums are also really famous and renowned, especilly Rijks Museum and Van Gogh Museum that are target of lots of tourists.

But you can find yet even in the centre of Amterdam magical place that you would not expect here. Such a magical place in the centre of Amsterdam is Begijnhof. It is one of the oldest urban conservation areas with complex houses built in the 14th century. Originally Begijnhof was entirely surrounded by water of the Singel, which is the innermost circular channel of the Amsterdams canal system (Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, Spui and Begijnensloot).

Todays Begijnhof is surrounded by buildings and that is why it is not easy to find that conservation area hidden in the inner block of houses. Two entrances lead in only, originally there was only one entrance from Begijnensteeg ("Beguines" – Aisle), where was the bridge over Begijnensloot. The second entrance from the street Spui was built in the 19th century.

When you visiting the centre of Amsterdam, Begijnhof is an oasis of calm where you can feel the special atmosphere of old history of this place.
