Via dei Condotti is Rome's busy shopping street with lots of fashion designer boutiques and salons. The same way like London has the Bond Street, Milan Via Montenapoleone, Paris Rue du Faubourg -Saint - Honoré and the Rome has Via dei Condotti.


Via Condotti is the most luxury Roman street devoted to fashion with a number of designer boutiques and salons. Bulgari brand has studio here since 1905. The street is flanked by fashion industry icons like Valentino, Armani, Hermes, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Gucci, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Salvatore Ferragamo and other. Some brands have their shops on Via dei Condotti, others such as Laura Biagiotti have their offices here.


History of Via Condotti is really long. The street has already existed in the time of ancient Rome. At that time Via Condotti crossed the Via Flaminia, which was an ancient Roman road leading from Rome over the Apennine Mountains to the Adriatic Sea. Via Condotti begins at the Spanish Stairs and the street got its name based on the irrigation canal that supplied water to the Agrippa spa near the Pantheon.


Caffé Greco also Antico Caffè Greco, the most famous café in Rome originated at street Via Condotti. Cafe was founded in 1760 and celebrities such as Stendhal, Goethe, Byron, Liszt and others loved to attend the Cafe. The street is also known because Guglielmo Marconi, inventor of wireless telegraph, lived in Via dei Condotti 11 until his death in 1937.


Via Condotti is, again, one of the must see places where all tourists have to come during their stage in Rome.
