The monument of St. Wenceslas on Wenceslas Square is a symbol of Czech statehood. The author of the best-known sculptural monument in Prague is the most important Czech sculptor of 19th and 20th century, a representative of the monumental realism and the founder of modern Czech sculpture Josef Vaclav Myslbek. Myslbek had been working on statue of St. Wenceslas for more than thirty years.
