The Empire State Building Experience

The Empire State Building Experience

Located in the center of Midtown Manhattan, one of the most famous locations in New York, the Empire State Building stands tall and proud. This New York treasure is a must see while visiting New York, with the key attraction being the unforgettable 360° views it showcases of New York City and beyond. The building’s observatory, one of the most important parts of the Empire State Building Experience, has been featured in over 250 movies including classic films like Sleepless in Seattle and An Affair to Remember.

Empire State Building Observatory

The observatory is the Empire State building's famed 86th floor viewing deck, towering 1,050 feet above the city, provides unmatched views of the city. From here, visitors have the opportunity to take in sweeping views of Manhattan and encompassing areas including Brooklyn, New Jersey and Queens, from either the building's open air deck or glass enclosed viewing area. Points of interest including the Statue of Liberty, Central Park and the Brooklyn Bridge are all visible as well on clear days.

On the outdoor deck there are several coin operated viewing machines with high-power binoculars that provide magnified views of the legendary points of interest that surround you, including the Ellis Island, Chrysler Building and the Manhattan Bridge, all incredible sights. Visitors can also access the 102nd floor observatory for an additional fee. This observatory is smaller sized and completely enclosed, with massive windows that feature bird's eye views from a height of 1,250 feet. On clear days, visibility can stretch as far as 80 miles, providing views as far away as Connecticut, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

Both observatories can be accessed from one of the Empire State Building's many elevators, with a couple of "must see" stops along the way. There's a multimedia exhibition located on the second floor that tells the amazing story of the Empire State Building as it is today, showcasing the building' recent transformational renovations that have turned the historic landmark into a modern icon of environmental sustainability. A stop at the 80th floor gives visitors the opportunity to learn about the building’s impressive past, presenting an exhibit that provides information about the construction of the building and the men who worked on it, with lots of interesting old photos and fun facts.

A More Personalized Empire State Building

Experience if you sign up for the Express Pass, you'll be able to avoid all of the lines to and from the observatory on the 86th floor. By being an Express Pass holder, you'll be taken to the specified express lanes when you arrive at the building. Once you get through the security screening area you'll be guided to the front of the line at ticketing where you'll redeem your voucher. From here you simple present your pass to the uniformed attendants along the way, arriving at the observation deck with hardly any waiting time, if any at all.

While the views are the main reason people are drawn to the Empire State Building, there are a wide variety of other reasons to visit. Touring the building is all-consuming, providing you with the true New York experience in its world famous landmark. Besides the observation decks, the entire interior of the building is well worth a visit including the awe inspiring art deco murals gracing the ceiling in the newly restored lobby. You'll also want to make time to tour the historic Dare to Dream exhibit as well as the Sustainability exhibit, shops and restaurants. Whether you’re lucky enough to live in New York, or are here for business or pleasure, no visit is complete without treating yourself to the Empire State Building experience.
