Gloriette above the castle park adds to the whole Schonbrunn majestic appearance. Construction of Schonbrunn castle started in 1696 under the reign of Leopold I. The grand project was launched with the intention to overcome the palace of the French kings at Versailles. Later, the plan was reduced, but Schonbrunn castle still has an impressive appearance.

Vondelpark in Amsterdam

Vondelpark is a city park nearby the centre of Amsterdam. The park was founded by citizens led by Christiaan Pieter van Eeghen and opened in 1865 under the name New Park.

 

In 1867 a sculpture of the poet and playwright Joost van den Vondel by the sculptor Louis Rover was installed in the park and people started using the name Vondelpark.
